In 2017, Rachel Lindsay made television history by becoming the first Black woman to be a lead in “The Bachelor” franchise. At the end of her season, she accepted a proposal from Bryan Abasolo, 41. Unfortunately, the love story failed to conclude in a happily ever after. Abasolo and Lindsay are getting a divorce.

The television host rose to fame when she competed for Nick Viall’s heart on the 21st season of “The Bachelor.” After nearly reaching the end, Lindsay was sent home in week 9. Later, Lindsay was named the lead of “The Bachelorette” in 2017. Abasolo eventually won over her heart, and they married in 2019. Four years later, things have gone south.

Rachel and Bryan’s split is due to irreconcilable differences.

Lindsay and Abasolo’s divorce was announced on Jan. 2, 2024. According to People, divorce documents state that the couple officially separated on Dec. 31, 2023. The documents also state “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their separation.

The former couple have been mostly quiet about the details surrounding the split. Abasolo posted a statement to his Instagram regarding the break-up.

“My parents have been married forever, and I’m a family man, but sometimes loving yourself and your partner means you must let go,” Abasolo stated.

The 38-year-old has not made a public statement about the divorce. However, she did post a video on Dec. 31, 2023, with a caption that sheds some light on her feelings.

“Definitely one of the hardest years of my life, but choosing to focus on grateful moments and carrying that energy into 2024,” Lindsay wrote on Instagram

Although the couple would like to remain private, the former attorney spoke about her marriage recently. Appearing on her ex, Viall’s podcast, “The Viall Files,” she cited balancing their careers as an issue in her marriage. Abasolo is a chiropractor and often works long hours. Lindsay is working multiple jobs and is away from home a lot.

She told People, “We’re just in two totally different places,”

The couple began their relationship in the public eye but remained relatively private during their marriage. The announcement of their divorce is somewhat shocking as Lindsay reported a healthy marriage just two months before their separation. Lindsay told E! News that the couple was in the process of starting a family.

“It’s something we want,” she stated in November 2023. “It’s been harder than I thought it would be. We’re trying. You think, ‘Oh yeah, when I’m ready, I’ll make it happen. But it’s just been a little bit more difficult for us. But we’re definitely starting the process.'”

People reported that Rachel Lindsay’s divorce was also a topic on a recent episode of her podcast, “Higher Learning.” While she was emotional, she made it clear that she would be OK with “taking it day-by-day.”

Unfortunately, the success rate for relationships birthed via Bachelor Nation is low. And while Rachel and Bryan’s divorce came as a shock to fans, it also reminds us that we never know what goes on behind closed doors. We’d like to wish both Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo all the best.
