My oh, my! I am amazed at FKA Twigs latest video for her song Glass & Patron. I must say she did a fabulous job with the concept and visuals of this video while being the director of this project. The video catches the viewers eyes from beginning to end.
As a videographer and filmmaker I have to admit, I haven’t watched a music video in almost a year. I saw no point in taking time out of my day to watch someone’s music video. I just figured it would have the same theme of today’s boring music – sex, money, drugs, blah, blah, blah. However, I was interested in finding out who FKA Twigs was since she has such a very unique look and style. Upon going onto YouTube I blessed my eyes upon what might be one of the best visual videos of all time. It is reminiscent of Busta Rhymes and Janet Jackson’s What’s It Gonna Be video due to its futuristic aesthetic and style.
When the video first starts off, it shows a very pregnant FKA Twigs lying down in a cabin in the woods. This captured my attention because not many music videos show a pregnant woman with her stomach out for the world to see. This added to the magical weird theme to the video, but it made me question where this video was going. Where could she be going with the idea of a pregnant woman singing a song in a cabin in the woods? And soon I was singing along and watching a vogue showdown. Anyone who knows me knows that I love drag shows and watching people vogue. Men dressed in these androgynous, avant-garde outfits were twirling and dipping to her request, all over a stage in the middle of a dark forest. Her concept for this video fits the song to a TEE since it has a feel good house vibe to it. By the end of the video, we see FKA Twigs is displaying her physical talents shown through flexible poses and positions.
