Grown-ish Renewed for 2nd Season By Freeform

Good news MEFheads! Freeform has renewed Grown-ish for a second season and we couldn’t be more excited. The spinoff to ABC’s highly acclaimed comedy Black-ish has received a 20 episode second season order.

The half hour breakout comedy follows Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) daughter of Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) as she navigates through adulthood in her freshman year at Cal U.

Five episodes in, Grown-ish has tackled issues that most college students experience including sexuality, relationships and self- discovery. The show is just the right mix of smart and fun.

Grown-ish has been a huge hit with fans and critics and currently has a 91 percent approval rating on Rotting Tomatoes. Its premiere on Jan 3 was the highest comedy debut in nearly 6 years! The show’s renewal was announced during Freeform’s inaugural summit.

Fans got a first look at the spinoff last spring on ABC. After ABC declined the project, it was picked up by Freeform.

The series is executively produced by creator Kenya Barris, Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne and Julie Bean. Catch Grown-ish Wednesday nights at 8 p.m./7c on Freeform.
