The month of January feels like it lasted forever. Fortunately, there has been a bunch of new music released to suffice. There are amazing songs that dropped this month to start the year like Cardi B’s “Finesse” remix and Drakes two-song EP Scary Hours. But there have also been several great releases from underrated, rising artists.
Dreezy & 2 Chainz – “2nd to None”
Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz and Chicago Rapper Dreezy merge forces for the braggadocious track “2nd to None.” Dreezy and Chainz trade quick-witted bars over an energetic beat by Southside. This single by Dreezy comes after the magnificent track “Spar“that featured 6lack and Kodak Black.
Sahbabii – “Watery”
Sahbabii starts off 2018 strong with a melodious and addicting track titled “Watery.” The song, oddly enough, sounds like gospel. Sahbabii sings heavenly over joyful keys and uses water to describe the wetness of vagina and his diamonds. One of the most free-spirited songs released this month.
Rico Nasty – Key Lime OG (Remix) (featuring Shy Glizzy)
DMV rappers link up for the better on the remix for “Key Lime OG.” It was a standout on Rico Nasty’s project last year so it was only right for her to treat her fans with something special. Things are looking up for Shy Glizzy as well as he is coming off of a solid mixtape and Grammy nomination. The track is a boisterous banger that will cure the appetites of Rico’s fans until her next move.
Hoodrich Pablo – “Money on Fleek”
Earlier this month, there was a tweet going around on twitter that the illustrious Hoodrich Pablo Juan makes “bad bitch music but for niggas.” “Money On Fleek” is the best example of that. The song is featured his 2018 mixtape, Rich Hood. Pablo has a quiet voice on an active instrumental produced by Captain Crunch and Big Head, the producer of “Gucci Gang” by Lil Pump. He flexes his riches and street status with ease and lets the beat ride.
Trippie Redd – TR666 (featuring Swae Lee)
Trippie Redd is slated for a big year. Just the news that he has songs with Drake and Lil Wayne coming out this year was big enough. He was actually supposed to be on God’s Plan by Drake, but some problems occurred. He starts out this year with “TR666” with help from Swae Lee. Both utilize their unique voices on the track and they actually sound pretty great as a team. Hopefully, this is not the last collaborative effort we will hear from them.
Saweetie – “ANTI Freestyle”
The beautiful and stylish Saweetie sets her year off right with a freestyle over SOB X RBE’s 2017 release “Anti.” Saweetie floats over the Bay Area sound by spitting about her expensive priorities and goals. She makes sure we know she only has time for money and her team. Her voice adds a different flavor to track.
Lucki – “4Everybody”
After releasing the heavily underrated project Watch My Back last year, Chicago’s steady, alluring voice is back with “4Everybody.” His trademark sound keeps getting better and better and this song is a perfect signification. He raps about illicit substances in a way that shines artistically. “She take pinks, I take blues, this our wedding thing,” Lucki raps over the chilling instrumental.
Rejjie Snow – “Egyptian Luvr” (featuring Amine and Dana Williams)
This may be the best track on the list. Rejjie Snow has been rapping for a very long time it seems, Yet, he is still very young. Now he is ready to release his debut on February 16th. The Irishman enlists the voices of Amine and Dana Williams, along with production from Kaytranda, for this very smooth track. This song may make you an instant fan. He released an EP with three other amazing tracks that will be on the album. You should check them out.
Abra – “B.R.A.T.”
The darkwave dutchess returned to us. On this track produced by long time collaborator and friend Father, Abra expresses her unqiue style. She sings over a somewhat sparse yet vivid instrumental. Her enchanting voice is barely audible but it works anyway. Truly it is just the beginning of what she has in store for the year of 2018.
