New Year, Same Designs?
Indian designer Orijit Sen is accusing Christian Dior of plagiarizing his print. In January, Elle released their 2018 magazine. On the cover was famous Indian actress, Sonam Kapoor. Kapoor stood beautiful, draped in an authentic Bollywood designed dress: red printed with yoga stance statues.
But there’s just one tiny problem.
Indian based clothing brand People Tree is accusing Dior of stealing their design. According to Mid-Day, the yoga print used on the cover was originally created by the co-founder of People Tree, Orijit Sen and his wife Gurpreet Sidhu.
“It’s one of our classics, which has sustained itself because of its popularity. It’s not just a question of inspiration,” Sidhu told Mid-Day. “They [Dior] have also copied the color combination. It’s a total rip off. We are in talks with a lawyer to see what our legal options are.”
The Facts?
Sen has been using the Yoga Print in multiple pieces of his collection, which you can shop, here. Sen claimed to have penned the print back in 2000, according to NDTV. People Tree has shops in New Delhi and Goa. After seeing the alleged plagiarism, Sen took to Facebook to post his original work side by side to Christian Dior’s, captioning the comparison “Unchristian Dior”.
Christian Dior and the team have yet to comment on the allegations.
