Christian Siriano has kicked off the New York fashion week season with a fabulous nod to Hollywood glamour accented with a splash of modernity. Siriano’s extravagant shows have become somewhat of a tradition, either opening or closing fashion week.
Showgoers were sure to be in for a treat as Christian’s previous end-of-summer shows have included a dunk in the pool and other fun antics.
Elizabeth Taylor’s former townhome served as the perfect venue for Siriano’s bold collection. With a nod to Fashion Week’s earliest iterations, Siriano hosted a salon style presentation along with a private dinner in the home. Style icon, Janet Jackson graced the exclusive event. The townhome’s stunning spiral staircase served as a scenic (albeit risky) entrance to the runway that models appeared to glide down. The domed atrium at the end of the room made for the perfect end-of-runway backdrop.
Siriano teased tulle-filled sneaks and previews of the collection on socials featuring a black-and-white filter that disguised the designer’s signature vibrance leaving the viewers hungry for the impending collection.
In this collection, Siriano’s signature style of full skirts and wide brims to match, satisfies the glam girl in all of us. Siriano spoke on the Hollywood muses who inspired the collection: Audrey Hepburn, Bianca Jagger, of course, Elizabeth Taylor. Collection standouts are:
Look 3, featuring an all-black bell-bottomed suit complete with a matching blazer and a stark whitebutterflied collar and bell sleeves.
Look 7 is an extravagant semi-sheer gown featuring a 2-tiered peplum skirt and a cloud-like hat to match.
Look 30, is a hot pink tulle extravaganza that resembles delicately crafted paper flowers.
The inspirations and Siriano’s expertise meld together so well to create a well-rounded collection that is both nostalgic yet fresh.
