#WATCH: British Documentary Sheds Light on “Hidden” R&B Scene

While R&B continues to fluctuate in the US market – now on the rise again, in the UK, it is shockingly sparse when it comes to mainstream exposure. The likes of Puma Blue, Taliwhoah, Rachel Foxx and more continue to find obstacles when trying to breakthrough. However, last week Rakeem Omar launched a collaborative effort with GUAP Magazine to uncover the genres current state.

Titled ‘UK R&B – Where is the noise’, the documentary unlocks the voices that have tried to maintain and support the genre during its struggle to retain relevancy. Industry weights such as Scully, Smooth Fuego and more reveal the hidden gems and ways in which they are trying to save the genre across the country. Rising DJ Nadia Jae for example promotes R&B wherever she goes and now has a platform dedicated to the genre on BBC 1xtra. Elsewhere, the documentary unpacks the struggle for success with the acts within the scene such as Kadeem Tyrell and Shaé Universe.
