Black Panther Continues to Break Records

As the whole world knows Black Panther is the first Marvel film directed by an African American, Ryan Coogler; which happened to have brought in $201 million this past four-day weekend. Not to mention this is the fifth biggest opening of ALL TIME. “It is the second biggest opening for a Marvel Studios film, behind 2012’s “The Avengers.” Not only is it the fifth biggest opening of all time, its topped F. Gary Gary for largest opening for an African American director. Gary Gary directed “The Fate of the Furious,” which opened at $98 million April 2017.

Black Panther brought in an opening of more than $360 million around the world before revised estimates. Black Panther also broke the record for Febraury opening, which had belonged to Deadpool – the superhero film brought in $132 million when it opened back in 2016.

Even before the film was released the film broke records. According to Fandango, the first 24 hours of presale tickets where the highest of any Marvel movie. Not to mention according to Twitter by the end of 2017, Black Panther was the “ninth most tweeted about movie of the years” without people seeing anything except the trailer.

Not to much surprise Twitter played a big part in Black Panther. Although I am not a Marvel fan, I had to go see Black Panther from the trailers I’ve seen blasted all through Twitter. As of today, I have seen the movie three times and each time I’ve went I have seen nothing but pure admiration from movie goers. Some people dressing up in their Wakanda’s finest as they attend the movie. Some people in the theater I was in, came in their Dashiki while some people on Twitter/Instagram came in with gold chains, a crown, and fur.

This movie broke so many records because it showcases people of African/ Black descent in a positive way with so much elegance and culture. I heard someone say, “this is our version of Harry Potter, that’s why we are showing up and showing out.”
