Amazon Developing Slavery Reparations Series “Black America”

Amazon

Amazon is developing a drama series from Will Packer and Aaron McGruder that will deal with a post-slavery reparations America.

Will Packer has been on projects such as ” Girls Trip” , “Ride Along” and  “Think Like A Man”. His partner, Aaron McGruder, is known for his work on “The Boondocks” and “Black Jesus”.  The Amazon drama series will be titled “Black America” .

Just days after the internet dragged the HBO drama alt-history series, Confederate, a story about if slavery still exist, Packer announces, an antidote, to the controversial series HBO pitched, “Black America”.

According to Deadline, the series envisions an alternate history where newly freed African Americans have secured the Southern states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama post-Reconstruction as reparations for slavery, and with that land, the freedom to shape their own destiny.

“It was something that was personally intriguing for me as a Black American,” Packer said. “You would be hard pressed to find many Black Americans who have not thought about the concept of reparation, what would happen if reparations were actually given.”

The project originated at Amazon Studios and for those involved, they are hoping it will create a kind of utopia. Which has been on the minds of generations of blacks.

The shows release date is still unknown. But, after watching “Girls Trip” and being a lifetime fan of “The Boondocks” – we trust them to tell our narrative.

Will you be tuning in ?
