To celebrate Africa Day, the Zero Malaria charity organization has launched a second chapter of the multi-award-winning Draw the Line Against Malaria Campaign. The campaign is about creating an African future free of the deadly disease, Malaria. This campaign speaks to young people who’ve had their futures disturbed by Malaria. The aim is to make sure that no child is left behind.
AWARD-WINNING BONANG MATHEBA JOINS THE CAMPAIGN
Some of the world leaders featured in this campaign include South African media personality and businesswoman, Bonang Matheba. Bonang said she is proud to be a part of the campaign to help create a future free of Malaria. As an advocate for education through her bursary fund program, Bonang is one of the inspirations for future leaders. “We know this is a winnable fight. My home country South Africa is edging ever closer to eliminating this preventable disease,” she said.
MORE AFRICAN STARS ON THE CAMPAIGN
The list of leaders also includes FC Barcelona athlete, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kenyan Olympian and marathon world record-holder, Eliud Kipchoge. Nigerian Afropop singer, songwriter, and actress Yemi Alade also made her debut feature. Kenyan 2020 Tokyo Olympic middle-distance champion, Faith Kipyegon is on the campaign as well. Grammy award-winner, Meji Alabi is the film director behind the announcement film. David Beckham, who is part of the Malaria No More Leadership Council also appears in this new inspirational campaign.
The organization urges the public to come together in making sure that no child’s future is compromised. They are also urging more world leaders to make big pledges at this year’s The Global Fund replenishment. “With great tools like vaccines, next-generation bed nests, and treatments Malaria can be beaten. We just need determined people to make it a reality and save millions of lives” they said.
THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
The WHO director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said his organization welcomes a new host of champions who have joined the fight against Malaria.
“Draw The Line provides a platform for Africa’s most powerful narrators to change this trajectory, disrupt political apathy, and lead the fight to end this treatable and preventable disease which kills a child nearly every minute,” said Ghebreyesus.
The Draw The Line Against Malaria campaign is looking to save a lot of lives while enabling children to live bright futures.
