A “Thank You” from SZA, Ctrl the Deluxe Album

What other debut album spent five consecutive years on the Billboard 200 chart?

After releasing cult classic Ctrl in 2017, SZA has dug into the hard drive for the album update, Ctrl (Deluxe). The deluxe album comes as a celebration of the fifth anniversary of its original release. SZA is incredibly prolific and since Ctrlshe has been featured on countless records, stayed on the charts, and received everything from Grammys to BBMAs. It is rumored that in creating Ctrl, the singer-songwriter had hundreds of recorded songs to build the album from. Ctrl(Deluxe) features seven of those older songs. Her additions include the alternate version of “Love Galore” that SZA shared from her tour bus where she substitutes Travis Scott’s verse for her own. It also includes “2AM” a single from 2016 that references PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “Come and See Me” featuring Drake. “Percolator” is another familiar release, a snippet from 2018 that fans had to listen to on YouTube before today.

Know you don’t love me, I never care. Unless I come first, you come on time, I reverse, you rewind do it again.

The other four tracks are titled “Miles”, “Tread Carefully”, “Awkward”, and “Jodie” which has Tyler the Creator credited as a producer. Each seems to fit in the themes of Ctrl and her earlier mixtapes, the complex nature of young love. SZA wrote on Twitter that she “Had to clear the old out for the new”, hopefully hinting at new music, because if Ctrl is any indicator, her voice and perspective is necessary in music today. Which deluxe track can you see being a part of the original album?
