“Free Spirited,” would be one of the many adjectives used to describe the beautiful Giselle Mynx. From her pink colored hair to her “can do anything” attitude, Mynx is definitely one of a kind. Early this year, I had the pleasure of having dinner with Miss Mynx and delightfully entered her world of positivity draped with wonder that same night. Her fearless disposition was clear as she spoke about her travels around the world and creative career. At the age of seventeen, she ran away from her hometown of Hollywood, California and headed to the country music capital, Nashville, Tennessee. Like many teenagers, Mynx didn’t feel like she belonged in her home town. Several years later, after backpacking in Europe, she magically arrived to New York City and started her excited, new life fulled with creativity, modeling, music and new adventures. Introducing her lust for wonder and freedom to the lucky ones who enter her space.
Gabrielle Amani: Where are you from and what was it like growing up there?
Giselle Mynx: I’m from Hollywood California and growing up was exciting. I was high-spirited, competitive and played sports with the boys. I was always seeking people and situations that challenged and made me stronger. I also had a menagerie of animals I was responsible for taking care of.
Gabrielle Amani: Wow, taking care of animals is a lot of responsibility. What kind of student were you in high school?
Giselle Mynx: Restless, insatiably curious, I did extremely well in school.
Gabrielle Amani: What was the one thing you liked about your hometown and one thing you hated?
Giselle Mynx: The warmth of the sun on my skin, sweet orange blossoms wafting through the air, feeling cool earth of the hills rising at dusk. I also liked all the fantasy that people come from all over the world with dreams to build a better life. The one thing I hated was Traffic.
Gabrielle Amani: Sounds like you loved your life in Cali, why did you decide to leave California alone?
Giselle Mynx: It was a collision of many different factors; I didn’t belong. I ran away when I was 17 because I was ready to take full responsibility for my life, and it was simply time to leave. I’ve always been fiercely independent, never waited on anyone to get things done and was earning my own money which allowed me to make decisions for myself unfettered by someone holding the purse strings. Also, without diving into detail, I come from a broken home shattered in many different ways. I grew up in an extremely volatile, sad and tumultuous environment. Everything that was supposed to be stable was always crumbling around me and I wanted a different kind of life, dreamed of life that could be better … so I was fueled by fantasies of freedom, love and happiness, the ability to create my own destiny.
Gabrielle Amani: Is that why traveling is so important to you?
Giselle Mynx: Traveling is very important to me!! I love the adventure of traveling, exploring and being inspired by new places and meeting new people.
Gabrielle Amani: With all the places in the world, why did you choose to settle down in NYC?
Giselle Mynx: Because NYC is teaming with humanity, worlds colliding and hearts melting into one. All the artists I’ve ever admired got their start here, so I knew NYC would be a perfect playground to struggle, hone my craft and grow strong in.
Gabrielle Amani: How did you decide music was the path for you?
Also, my mother was playing her old vinyl records in the house, so we had Elvis crooning, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone. My mother played classical piano too, so I’d curl up like a kitten at her feet and just listen to her play our little baby grand piano for hours. The romance and pure emotion of great music has always swept me up, made my heart skip. Madonna’s “Immaculate Collection” was the first record I bought. And I was absolutely obsessed. Because of all these things, I was hyper aware at an extremely young age the power music had to ignite underlying emotions, deliver powerful messages that connected people to start revolutions. That all these artists had created worlds of raw emotion, stories and I was slipping in … following a yellow brick road that led to the emerald city that I could create just like they did, but in my own way.
Gabrielle Amani: Who influences your music now and who would you compare it too?
Giselle Mynx: Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, and Everything Rick Rubin has ever done. The whirling sound of the Ferris wheel on Coney Island. The swoosh of the L train arriving to whisk me into the city. Chrome wheels spinning, engines roaring. My music box collection when I was a little girl. The beat of my true love’s heart when my head is resting on his chest.
Gabrielle Amani: Those are pretty big names. What can we expect from your next project?
Giselle Mynx: Honest stories from my heart. Love and magic surviving through difficult and challenging situations. If you’re feeling low, hopefully I can lift you up into the light and give you courage to hunt down your dreams like I always have and always be brave to follow your own heart. 
Gabrielle Amani: When will your next project be released?
Giselle Mynx: I have tons of new music coming. Modeling, art direction projects, painting and poetry. I wrote a romance novel. We are finalizing release dates for everything – but they will be announced soon so keep your ears open. Follow me on social media: @gisellemynx for all the latest updates.

Giselle Mynx: A starry-eyed dreamer; a girl who wears her heart on her sleeve, retaining her humor and doing everything in her power to create a world that’s gentler, kinder and more loving for all of us to live in.
