Father’s Day is the perfect time to show your dad just how much you appreciate him. Being a dad is not an easy task, so to celebrate we are listing the most iconic TV dads in Television history. These guys made parenthood look easy.
Philip Banks (Uncle Phil)
The late James Avery played Philip Banks, the strong-willed renowned Judge on the hit 90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Although he was a strict parent, he loved all kids and took in his nephew and treated him as his own. The banter between him and Will was always fun to watch and added a nice balance to the show.
Bernie Mac
Known as Uncle Bernie in this series, Mac took care of his sister’s kids as if they were his own. The kids definitely didn’t make his life any easier, but they definitely made his life an adventure.
Carl Winslow
Carl Winslow definitely earns a spot on our list. Family Matters was a great show that taught us many life lessons. Also, anyone who can put up with an annoying neighbor like Steve Urkel, while dealing with his own family, deserves father of the year award.
Michael Kyle
How can you not love Michael Kyle played by Damon Wayans. When he was not constantly embarrassing his family on My Wife and Kids, he actually showed great wisdom when it came to parenting. There was never a dull day in the Kyle household.
Ray Campbell
In the beloved 90s sitcom Sister, Sister Ray Campbell played by Tim Reid, was always the show’s voice of reason. He took on the duty as a single parent to his adopted daughter Tamera and welcomed her twin sister and her adopted mother with open arms. A bit overprotective at times, he was always there for the girls no matter what.
Frank Mitchell
Frank Mitchell was another beloved TV dad. He wasn’t perfect, but he loved his family more than anything. He always did what was best Moesha and Myles.
Fred Sanford
Fred Sanford wasn’t the best TV dad, but he raised his son after his mother died. He was sneaky, and Lamont was often the reasonable one out of the two. Their totally different personalities made for a great show.
Bill Cosby
Although recent allegations have placed a negative light on Cosby, we can’t deny that his character, Dr. Huxtable, is the archetypal TV dad. Cosby portrayed the legendary Dr. Huxtable in the hit show The Cosby Show as a loving father in a thriving black family. Cosby often disciplined his children with humor and wisdom
