6 Summer Fits Inspired by the VMA Red Carpet

The 2018 VMAs aired this past week, and they were filed with drama, amazing performances and a stunning red carpet. Now we love a good awards show, but our favorite part of them is always the fashion. I’m sure a lot of our MEF heads feel the same way(;

Your favorite celebrities showed up in the latest trends and most lux designs. These looks inspired us at MEF to bring you some summer fashion inspiration for every occasion.

Teyana Taylor

Teyana Taylor walked the pink carpet in an upgraded version of her look from last years VMAs. She is flaunting her AMAZING body with an androgynous flare that most cannot achieve.

We converted Teyana’s look with the same sexy and androgynous vibes but a little more understated and ready-to-wear. The layered look of her pants was mimicked with a mesh top and while bralette. We replaced her combat pants with a simple black jean that is elevated, literally, by a heeled sneaker. Try this look for a concert or night out on the town!

Camilla Cabello

Camilla Cabello had a fantastic first VMAs. She won two awards out of the five she was nominated for. And she accepted these awards in a blue, bias-cut, tye-dye dress. The look is simple, somewhat conservative and a bit of a shock from the former 5th Harmony member.

We turned this angelic ensemble into an easy brunch look. We went pretty literal with a blue strapless top, white flowy bottoms, silver flats, and a right red lipstick. However, this look is not for a red carpet. You could wear this Camilla inspired fit to a nice outdoor brunch or maybe on a first date!

Cardi B

Cardi b showed off her post-baby body with a fuchsia velvet cocktail dress. The fabric caught the pink carpet lights in a mesmerizing way. She accessorized with large jade jewelry, which is such a cool combination that you don’t see often. She let the dress shine by pairing it with a short pixie cut.

For this summer look we went preppy. I know, not what you think of when you think of Cardi B, but her color story speaks to a crisp, simple look. We stuck with the fuchsia and jade because those colors are underutilized in the summer, but we added classic gold accessories and shoes. These add some summer shine to a picnic or even a regular day at the office.

Amandla Stenberg

Amandla Stenberg went full flower power on us this year. This 70s inspired look was nice reprieve from the circus that is the VMAs. We can always count on Amandla to bring a subtle uniqueness to a red carpet.

And we brought those same vibes to this summer look. A bright flowy top is comfortable but makes a statement. We paired this with a foe leather skirt and matching shoes. The white cross body bag brightens up the monochromatic bottom half of the outfit. This fit is great for a night on a beach town or museum hopping with friends.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively has gotten very invested in her newest role in “A Simple Favor.” Her character is a high powered woman so she these over the top power suits are her speciality. The top is very traditional and masculine and the bottom is modern and feminine.

We kept with the all white color scheme as a base, but we had to add some colorful accessories to make it MEF. The masculinity is upheld with the mens button down dress, and perhaps the most underused accessory out there… a necktie! Women can rock a necktie, and this proves it. Try this one our if you are a #girlboss.

Shawn Mendes

If you weren’t looking closely you may have missed Shawn Mendes’s two tone suit. His double breasted blazer and pleated pants may seem a little old fashioned, but they suited this old soul perfectly.

For men looking to get into color this is the outfit for you! These colors may seem more winter than summer, but when it comes to menswear colors are less seasonally restricted. And some light patterned shoes really pop when you go with darker apparel! Try this outfit for work, of course. But where this look will really have an impact is on a date. Weather its a first date or an anniversary dinner your significant other will be taken aback by this Mendes inspired look!
