6 Songs You Should Not Sleep On This Week!

Each week we compose a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear.  Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week! Don’t forget who put you on ?

“Better”  Khalid

Khalid teamed up with producer Charlie Handsome for a smooth pop-vibe entitled “Better”.  Better is a song you can blast at any time of day, no matter the season. The 5 Grammy-nominated R&B singer, has proven over and over that he is here to stay.  We are excited to see what’s next from velvet-vocals himself, Khalid!!!

“151 Rum” J.I.D

J.I.D is back and he is rapping, rapping!! Atlanta rapper J.I.D shows his versatility and storytelling on his new track “151 Rum”. He raps in a double-time flow which means he raps over a slow beat with a flow style that is double the time of the beat per minute. Artist like Twista and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony are known for using this type of flow style. What makes this song so great, is the story-telling. Underneath the cover art for his track “151 Rum”, he captions it with the words “A film by J.I.D”. Which could seem cliche at first but let me tell you, J.I.D delivers in a big way!!

The chorus: ” 151 rum and a blunt, young ni**a numb, numb, numb and he got a little gun A little bitty killer really doin’ it for fun, give him a little bit and he’ll get a ni**a done”. This is coming off J.I.D’s next project “Dicaprio2”.

“Girl in the Picture” Kaiit

Soulful r&b singer, Kaiit, has an uplifting girl anthem for women who just got out of a shitty relationship or is currently in one ?.  When I hear this song I feel like I’m literally talking to one of my best friends.  Her powerful vocals ripples with warmth and confidence as she says ” Sis,  you don’t need him”. This song is off her newly released EP “Live From Her Room”.

“No AC” Niko Brim ft. Kamari

Up-and-coming rapper, Niko Brim, just dropped a soulful-rap hit “NO AC” featuring Kamari. This smooth deep cut is right on time for cuffing season. Niko shows his creativity with a short cinematic film to go along with his single “NO AC”. The visuals have a cute nostalgic feel as Brim and his love interest partake in a road trip that takes an abrupt turn when their Minnie RV breaks down and their AC is broken. Niko’s end-of-the-summer hit is off his album “ATP2”. “NO AC” is a complete vibe and I promise you will want to play this song over and over.

“Live” Friday

Southern Californian rapper, Friday, brings straight ??? to his newest single “Live”. Friday, gives insight on how his journey to cement his name in rap, has changed his surroundings: “hands out, I’m the man now, hands down, you a damn clown.” He exudes determination and confidence throughout the track over a sonorous beat: “Friday don’t play with them no way, Imma be around in a real way/ They box me out the game but I’m still straight/ Pick the world up and Imma Lil Wayne”. Friday exemplifies versatility and grit throughout “Live” and has definitely earned his spot in the game! You can stream ” Live” on SoundCloud.

“Ace” Noname, Smino, & Saba

Chicago rapper Noname brings her friends Smino and Saba for a jazzy- hip-hop cut “Ace”. The trio talks about the different versions of their success stories as they go from struggling artist to household names. This track is perfect in many ways: sonically, lyrically, comically, and vocally. It’s something very pleasing about these three on a track together it could be that they have similar sounds but I think its more than that.  Their bond comes through the track allowing for seamless transitions and harmonies out of this world!  “Ace” exemplifies how amazing it can be when three emerging talents in hip-hop collaborate and tap into the best of each other.
