From Dounia to Steve Lacy, These are the 6 Songs You Need To Know This Week

Each week we compose a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear.  Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week! Don’t forget who put you on!

THE LONDON // Young Thug, J. Cole and Travis Scott

Rap’s hottest trio just debuted! And they’ve written an ode to the infamous “The London” hotel. Young Thug, Travis Scott and J. Cole boast about their riches and their stays at the wonderful palace. This song sets the newest tone for all three rappers. Although many have tried to become the carbon copy of each of these talents, they have remained at the top of their kind. Young Thug reassures you of that by continue his sound for his upcoming album, and lead single as well!

Run Tings // ROMderful feat. Shakka and Dounia

As music develops while we exit a decade, sound has become rather experimental. ROMDerful, Shakka and Dounia team up to introduce what seems like a fusion of reggae and alternative R&B. Each hailing from very different spots of the world, (Jamaican-Birmingham bred Romderful, Shakka from London and Morrocan Dounia from Queens, NY) that should come as no surprise. Yet, this single strikes as a slow summer time whine. As the song climbs the charts, you won’t want to miss the gem!

Playground // Steve Lacy

If you follow The Internet, it’s no secret that each of the acts from the band has been working on solo projects. Steve Lacy has just released his debut album, Apollo XXI. The song ‘Playground’ is easily one of Lacy’s most acclaimed, fan-favorites. He showcases a lot of vocal strength and ability to play with a bass beyond his usual riffs and chords. The album in total, is shaped in the most Steve Lacy way possible. Yet if you find yourself taking your time listening to it, you should definitely start with ‘Playground’.

Lips Don’t Lie // Ally Brooke and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie

Music is unpredictable. For instance, this collaboration is one that seemed to appear out of the blue. ‘Lips Don’t Lie’ is infused with themes of sultry, in the most simple way possible. This cloak of sexiness appears in Ally Brooke’s softest tone just underneath a couple chords of a tango-like piano. A Boogie (Wit Da Hoodie) keeps his Bronx-cool throughout his verse in the bridge, in other words, remaining recognizable and fun. Lips Don’t Lie is easily one of the songs of the summer, take a listen!

Mercedes // Blocboy JB

You can always leave it to Blocboy to provide a summer hood anthem. ‘Mercedes’ is bound to be the next viral rap song of the summer. Despite that factor being up to debate, the shortness of this song means it will acquire all the hype it can; it is relatable, while remaining unaccessible in lyrics and it is also amazingly catchy. Check it out!

UP FOR AIR // Dounia

Let Dounia’s soft tone and honest lyrics keep you grounded this week. The tone of ‘Up For Air’ is easily one that will keep you mindful of who you are. That is not only for the heavy lyrics, but the therapeutic flow of the beat. Make sure to cue this song during your morning routine playlist, it’ll feel so peaceful you’ll fly by the fact that we put you on!
