The Super Bowl is this Sunday, and we are excited about this year’s halftime show. With A-list talents like Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Snoop Dogg, we know this performance will be one for the books. Yet, we can’t help but reminisce about some of the best Super Bowl halftime shows over the years.

1. Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, and Coldplay- 2016 Super Bowl

We were all amazed by this performance. From the costumes to the song selections and choreography, the 2016 Super Bowl halftime show is arguably the best of all time. Additionally, the stage presence between Beyonce, Bruno Mars, and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was absolutely phenomenal.

2. Lady Gaga- 2017 Super Bowl

Emotions and energy are what you can always expect Lady Gaga to bring. In 2017, Gaga wowed viewers with her high energy performance while singing her classic hits like “Bad Romance”, “Born This Way”, and “Just Dance”. Gaga touched the heart of millions while performing “Million Reasons” up-close and personal with fans.

3. Prince- 2007 Super Bowl

A little rain never hurt anybody, and it surely didn’t stop Prince from performing. In fact, the rain appeared to be a prop for him. Prince is known for having the most eccentric performances and this was no different. Even though it rained, fans still danced and sang along to his music. Furthermore, we can’t help but admire the intimate moment between Prince and fans when he sang “Purple Rain” as it continued to pour.

4. Michael Jackson- 1993 Super Bowl 

He could have stood still the entire time, and still would’ve garnered endless applause and praise. Michael Jackson’s halftime show at the 1993 Super Bowl was energetic, emotion-filled, and overall entertaining. Jackson performed hit songs like “Billie Jean” and “Black or White”. Jackson tugged on heartstrings when he added a choir of 3,500 children to sing “We Are the World” and “Heal the World”.

5. Beyoncé- 2013 Super Bowl

Beyoncé’s 2013 Super Bowl performance was one for the books. Not only was this her first Super Bowl performance, but it was the second most-watched halftime show in Super Bowl history. Not to mention, fans raved about the Destiny’s Child reunion.

6. Diana Ross- 1996 Super Bowl

One thing about Diana Ross, she’s one heck of an entertainer. In the 1996 Super Bowl halftime show, the crowd swooned at the sound of Ross’s vocals as she sang some of her biggest hits. Not to mention, we LIVE for Ms. Ross literally elevating herself while singing “Take Me Higher”.

7. Motown’s 40th Anniversary- 1998 Super Bowl

Can you say ‘black excellence’? Because that is exactly what the 1998 Super Bowl halftime show was filled with. The 1998 halftime show featured the wonderful talents of Smokey Robinson, Queen Latifah, The Temptations, Martha Reeves, Boyz II Men, and the Grambling State Marching Band. This show was full of endless excitement from performers and fans alike.

8. Aerosmith, N’Sync & Featured Guests- 2001 Super Bowl

All the pop and rock stars were featured in this electrifying performance. This show had nonstop energy from beginning to end with performances by Aerosmith and N’Sync. What made the performance even greater were the special guest appearances by Britney Spears, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige. Talk about a melting pot!

9. Madonna- 2012 Super Bowl

Say what you will about Madonna, but you can never say she isn’t a performer. Madonna’s 2012 Super Bowl halftime show was full of nonstop entertainment and energy. With guests performances by Nicki Minaj and Ceelo Green, the 2012 halftime was a delightful class act!

10. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez- 2020 Super Bowl

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez brought the Latin flavor to the 2020 Super Bowl. From the dancers to the music choices, fans danced nonstop throughout the performance. We also appreciate how Lopez and Shakira showed the world Latin and African-inspired dances in the show.
