03 Greedo Is The One of the Best Rising Rappers Right Now

Every few years a rapper comes along with so much talent they have nothing to prove. This describes 03 Greedo, a rapper from Watts, California who is on the fast track to making it big. If you have never heard of his name, its probably because of geography. 03 Greedo is at the forefront of the rising west coast rap scene which involves Shoreline Mafia, Mozzy, SOBxRBE, and Drakeo the Ruler and the Stinc Team.

Trap game made me royal, rap game made me spoiled – 03 Greedo on “Bacc to Bacc”

Whatever came to your mind when you thought of west coast rap you should throw it out the window. 03 Greedo is a surreal artist that has many talents in his arsenal to make consistent quality songs. You could describe him as a west coast T-Pain that has the charisma of a reggae singer. Whether it’s singing a beautiful hook or rapping an impeccable verse of his street chronicles, Greedo can do it all. He just released an amazing mixtape titled The Wolf of Grape Street and is the best project to drop last week.

At times 03 Greedo’s talent is memorizing. While listening to TWOGS,  you probably wonder to yourself how he pulls off the things he does. His multiple flows and abilities are a testament to the fact this 30 year old has been a student of the game for so long. This mixtape is constant display of gravitating energy. He alerts you the opening track “Drippin” where his voice is flailing all over the place. He switches from sonic flow to random burst of crooning. That’s pretty much the consensus of the whole album: Expect the unexpected.

He brings forth infectious swagger on the banger “Ballin’.” He express humorous bravado on his verse then suddenly you hear the insane existence of the voice from the featured artist Ketchy the Great of the Stinc Team. This mixtape, for the most part, is about pure energy, and there are more than a few facets of the project that summon that requirement.

TWOGS features gangsta rap at it’s finest and most inventive. Greedo enforces a personality that you can take lightly but also heavily respect. You can hear the hard breaths as he raps his heart out on “Look At Me Now.” He fills the song with an unorthodox flow and raises his voice without warning throughout. A constant quality of 03 Greedo is his freedom of structure. He’s a genius at writing and performing hooks, but the lack there of in certain instances speaks volumes to his genuineness. This track is monstrously braggadocious. He even boasts with the bar “same age that my daddy died” which is the most depressing yet most epic line of the track.

In his earlier works, Greedo had projects with relatively no features on it. Of the 21 tracks on TWOGS, there are 9 songs with featured artists and he raps well with every one of them. Though, it should be noted that the promising talent Ketchy the Great appears on four of these tracks. It’s not even just west coast artist he raps well with though. He sounds incredible alongside the likes of popular New York artist PNB Rock and upcoming Alabama rapper OMB Peezy.

03 Greedo is not afraid to do crazy things with his voice for the right affect to match the instrumental. If he wants to relax you, he makes voice sound lo-fi over an easygoing instrumental (“Substance”). If you wants to cause complete and other chaos he makes his voice sound distorted (“White Owl”). He’s expandable and likes to take risks, but it doesn’t sound like risks because it sounds so effortless. Greedo is a ridiculously fun artist, but is not afraid to get sincere on tracks like “For My Dawgs” and oldie but goodie track “Never Bend.” This is 03 Greedo’s first release since signing to Alamo Records. We can expect more mixtapes and maybe a debut before the year is over.
